Harrington sets triple-jump team record in Colorado
Brandon Harrington set the CSC triple-jump record last Saturday with a leap of 49 feet 7 inches at the University of Colorado Invitational Track and Field Meet in Boulder, Colo.
Harrington, a senior of Grand Island, took the record from Derrick Murphy by four inches. Murphy set the previous record of 49-3 in 2003.
Harrington also placed first in the long jump (22-8).
The other first place finish for the men’s team was Cody Hunt, a sophomore of Litchfield, in the shot put with 54-6.
Also for the CSC men, Riley Northrup, senior of Hot Springs, S.D., placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 45-1 ½, and Boomer McLaughlin, freshman of Sheridan, Wyo., placed second in the high jump (6-7).
In the men’s 100-meter dash, Jake Gruver, senior of Cheyenne, Wyo., placed second with a final time of 10.6.
Gruver also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.85.
Karl McFarlane, freshman of Montego Bay, Jamaica, placed second in the 110 hurdles with a final time of 14.52.
The CSC women had one first place when Julia Bayer, a senior from Stuttgart, Germany, won the triple jump with a leap of 37-4 ½. Bayer also placed third in the long jump (17-8 ¼).
Ashley Fanelli, junior of Arvada, Colo., placed fifth in the triple jump (36-2 ¾).
The CSC women placed fourth in the 400 meter relay with a final time of 48.88. The team consisted of Bayer, Meghan Finney, freshman of Gunnison, Colo., Monique Fair, freshman of Denver, and Trae Patch, freshman of Lingle, Wyo.
Ashley Riesen, freshman of Chadron, placed fourth in the 1500-meter run with a run of 4:53.02.
The Eagles will attend the Colorado State University-Pueblo Multi Event, beginning Thursday.
