The late Garrett Schlichtemeier, a wide receiver of Ogallala, was honored at last Saturday’s game against the University of Mary Marauders.

Schlichtemeier died at age 19 on March 8 after a car accident during a road trip he took with sophomores Michael Madkins, 18 of Sacramento, Calif., and Tyler Perri, 19 of Covina, Calif.

Chadron State Athletic Director Brad Smith contacted Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo, whose jersey Schlichtemeier was often seen wearing.

Romo signed the jersey, “In honor of Garrett, always finish strong.”

Smith and CSC President Janie Park presented it to Schlichtemeier’s parents, Jeff and Shari Schlichtemeier, and sister, Laramie Schlichtemeier. The ceremony, followed by a moment of silence, took place before Saturday’s game.
