Kline demolition slated despite weather conditions
The demolition of the Kline Center, originally slated to be destroyed in the fall of 2010, was delayed because of the discovery of asbestos in the building. Following reports of the negation of asbestos elements on Feb. 15, an announcement was made on March 1 that the demolition would proceed “within the coming week.” The college selected, ESA Inc. of S.D., as the contractor for the demolition.
Despite inclement weather and predictions for continued similar conditions, Blair Brennan, coordinator of physical facilities, said that while the snow may affect the mobilization of the contractors’ equipment, they should still arrive within the week.
Brennan said that the majority of the demolition would be mechanical in nature, and would employ track hoes, loaders, and skidsteers.
