No royal treatment for golf team at Palace Classic
The Chadron State golf team secured a sixth-place finish with a 36-hole total of 725 Saturday at the Palace City Classic hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, S.D.
The golf team was led by Schuyler Wetzel and Emma Harris; both claimed a spot toward the top of the final results.
Wetzel, sophomore of Hot Springs, S.D., led the team with an 87 on 18 holes Saturday after hitting 78 in Friday’s opening round, securing sixth place for the tournament.
“I think all of us on the team did really well this past weekend,” Wetzel said. “It was a great way to finish up the season, and it makes us look forward to competing in the spring.”
Harris, a sophomore of Wahoo, carded eighth place with her two-round scores of 81-86 over the weekend. Harris talked about the team’s performance.
“I think we did really well,” she said. “A few of us shot our lowest round yet in college. The courses were challenging but I think we handled them nicely. There is always room for improvement with our putting and chipping, so that’s something we can work on during the off season.”
Danielle Brennan, freshman of Ellsworth, and Nicole Thramer, freshman of Barlett, scored 179 and 245 respectively over the weekend.
The Palace City Classic was the team’s last fall match this season.
