V-ball team accepting shoe donations
The Chadron State volleyball team began taking donations for the “Barefoot for Barefeet Shoe Drive” fundraiser on Monday for the Barefoot Match, scheduled for Nov. 5 against Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota. The fundraiser was created by the Samaritan’s Feet Foundation in their Youth Volleyball Program.
The Samaritan’s Feet Foundation is a non-profit organization that is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, that helps send shoes to poor children across the planet. There are several programs that the organization runs in the United States and in about 20 other countries.
In sports, there have been several coaches of various sports teams showing their support for the foundation by walking barefoot during games. There are also professional sports ambassadors to the foundation such as Steve Smith, NFL wide receiver of the Baltimore Ravens; Gary Barnidge, tight end of the Cleveland Browns; Jonathan Stewart, running back of the Carolina Panthers; Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, NBA forward of the Charlotte Hornets; and Monica Wright, WNBA center of the Seattle Storm.
According to Christa McCaw, assistant volleyball coach, the goal is to have a minimum 150 pair of shoes. She said that there will be a small presentation during intermission of the Nov. 5 game to count the number of donated shoes.
“Helping kids just shows who we are as a program,” McCaw said.
As stated in a press release, shoes can be dropped off in a box located in the lobby of Chicoine Center or contact Coach McCaw at firstname.lastname@example.org or call at 402-607-0519. to schedule a pick up.
