Herl claims top spot at Colorado Invite

Senior Mel Herl, of Eaton, Colorado, continued her successful indoor season, claiming the first-place spot in the women’s weight throw with a 70 feet, 10 1/4 inch-toss at the University of Colorado Invitational Meet, Boulder, Friday and Saturday.
Herl also threw the shot put 48-1 for third place. Ashlyn Hanson, junior of Seward, placed fifth in the weight throw with a 57-4 1/2-throw, and Keri Ruff, senior of Eaton, Colorado, grabbed eighth place throwing 53-7 1/4. Danielle Weyer, freshman of Fremont, rounded out the placers for the women’s throws team, finishing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 37-2 3/4.
Stachia Reuwsaat, senior of Black Hawk, South Dakota, placed third in both the long jump and 60-meter dash. Reuwsaat jumped 19-7 and crossed the finish line in 7.54. Maddie Brashears, sophomore of Fort Morgan, Colorado, placed eighth in the long jump with a 17-11 3/4 jump.
Senior Tessa Gorsuch, of Rapid City, South Dakota, claimed third in the women’s 60-meter high hurdles, finishing in 8.64.
Much like the women, the men had several high-placers at last weekend’s meet. Starting with the men’s 60-m dash, Javan Lanier, freshman of Aurora, Colorado, earned third, running 6.93. Senior Andre Woodson, senior of Sacramento, California, ran 6.94 for fourth place.
Four CSC tracksters placed in the top eight of the men’s long jump. Justin Leman, sophomore of Douglas, Wyoming, earned third, jumping 21-10. Sophomores Khalil James, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jack Gibbens, of Sargent; and Gregg Peterson, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, placed fifth, sixth, and eighth, respectively. James jumped 21-3 1/2, Gibbens went 20-11 3/4, and Peterson, 20-8 1/2.
Dez Smith, senior of Bellflower, California, placed third in the long jump, going 46-3 1/2. Kharon Hall, freshman of Parker, Colorado, earned fifth with a 44-11-jump. James jumped 44-9 3/4 for sixth place.
Blake Jacobs, junior of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, placed third in the shot put, throwing 53-10, and sixth in the weight throw with a 50-1 1/2-throw. Jesse Bleidt, junior of Lewellan, threw 57-6 1/2 for third place in the men’s weight throw. Cory Martens, redshirt sophomore of Newton, Kansas, earned eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 54-11 1/4. David Aldridge, junior of Omaha, took seventh in the men’s shot put, throwing 50-1 1/2.
Herl, Reuwsaat, and Gorsuch, will travel to the University of Washington Husky Classic in Seattle Friday and Saturday.
The rest of the track and field team will travel to the South Dakota State University Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota, Friday and Saturday.
