Eagles earn 13 event wins in Spearfish, SD

The men’s and women’s indoor track teams combined to win 13 events at the Yellow Jacket Holiday Open, Saturday, in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Despite losing three of the best track athletes in CSC history to graduation, the women’s team took seven golds, led by Maddie Brashears, junior of Fort Morgan, Colorado, who won the 60-meter dash and the long jump. She crossed the finish line in the 60m in 8.14 seconds and lept 17 feet, 11 1/4 inches in the long jump.
Chasidy Horton, sophomore of Fountain, Colorado, won the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.42, and finished behind Brashears in long jump, with a mark of 16-8 3/4.
Alisha Heelan, senior of Lewellen, won the 300m with a time of 42.08, narrowly beating teammate Cassidy Johnson, senior of Rock Springs, Wyoming, who crossed the line in 42.88.
Whitney Riesen, freshman of Scottsbluff, earned a win in the 3,000m with a time of 10:57.73.
Both men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams won the meet.
For the throwing events, Ashton Hallsted, sophomore of Casper won the weight throw, marking a 58-9 1/4, while senior Ashlyn Hanson, of Seward, grabbed silver with a toss of 58 1/4.
On the men’s side, two throwers, a jumper and one sprinter earned individual golds.
Cory Martens, junior of Newton, Kansas, won the men’s weight throw with a throw of 59-1 1/4. Blake Jacobs, senior of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, earned first in the shot put, marking a 51-11 1/4 throw, and placed third in the weight throw with a 55-10 1/4.
Isaac Grimes, freshman of Rancho Verde, California, placed first in two jumping events, the long jump and the triple jump. He marked a 23-11 in long jump and a 47-9 in the triple, both provisional qualifying marks.
Finally for the men’s team Austin Fajfer, junior of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, won the 600m with a time of 1:27.47
CSC is competing again today, at the Mines Alumni Classic and Multi, in Golden, Colorado.
