Anders brings home all-around honors

Chadron State College cowboy Kalane Anders, junior of Bayard, won the all-around honors this past weekend at the rodeo in Fort Collins at Colorado State University. He scored points in three events and earned 280 points for the CSC rodeo team.
Anders won the steer wrestling event, turning in times of 4.1 and 4.0 seconds in each go-round of the event. He also took fifth place in tie down roping turning in times of 10.0 seconds and 13.1 seconds in each go-round.
Anders also earned points in the team roping event with his partner Brandi Cwach, senior of Geddes, South Dakota. The team took fifth place in the first go-round of the event.
Rowdy Moon, junior of Sargent, and Prestyn Novak, senior of Newell, South Dakota, also placed in the final standing in Fort Collins, Colorado..
Moon tied for fourth through sixth in the final standings of the bareback riding event. He scored 71 points in the first go-round and 73 points in the second go-round.
Novak brought home sixth place in the tie down roping. He turned in times of 11.0 and 13.6 at the rodeo.
“The men’s rodeo team did well this past weekend. Those who didn’t do well during those events got to loosen up and have a beach full of fun in the costume ribbon roping,” CSC rodeo contestant Tori Huffman, freshman of Burwell said.
Five other CSC rodeo members made the finals at the Colorado State University rodeo.
Kellen Washut, senior of Casper, Wyoming made the finals in the bareback riding. Buck Butterfield, freshman of Worland, Wyoming qualified for the finals in the bull riding. Carson Good, freshman of Long Valley, South Dakota and Cole Retchless, sophomore of Bridgeport both made the finals in the steer wrestling event. Jayde Atkins, sophomore of Broken Bow made the finals in the barrel racing.
Chadron State College’s rodeo team will compete next at Casper College in Casper, Wyoming on April 20-22.
