Moon advances to College National Finals Rodeo in June

Rowdy Moon, 21, junior of Sargent, will advance to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, this June. He sealed the runner-up position in the bareback riding competition in the Central Rocky Mountain Region for the 2017-18 season.
Chadron State College competed at the Casper College Rodeo this past weekend. Moon scored 69 points on each of his bareback rides. He finished fourth in the event with 840 points for the season.
Prestyn Novak, of Newell, South Dakota, placed third in the steer wrestling at Casper. He placed ninth the first go-round with a time of 6.2 seconds. He was runner-up in the finals with 5.1 seconds.
Novak is currently fifth in the steer wrestling standings with 390 points. He also took sixth place in the tie-down roping at Casper. He tied for fifth in the first go-round with 10.3 seconds, and placed fourth in the finals with 9.1 seconds.
Two other Chadron State College contestants are still in the running to make Nationals in the steer wrestling.
Devin Dibbern, junior of Riverdale, is currently third with 445 points. Kalane Anders, junior of Bayard, is fourth with 410 points.
Lance Neuerberg, senior of Kersey, Colorado, and his partner, Drew Neuerberg, of Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, placed fourth in the team roping at Casper. They turned in times of 12.3 and 12 seconds.
Brandi Cwach, senior of Geddes, South Dakota, took fourth in the goat tying with times of 6.4 and 7 seconds.
Cody Trump, senior of Merriman, tied for fifth in the first go-round of the saddle bronc riding with 68 points.
Cole Retchless, sophomore of Bridgeport, placed eighth in the steer wrestling turning in a time of 6 seconds.
The Chadron State College rodeo team will compete this weekend in Laramie, Wyoming at the University of Wyoming.
