By the time CSC’s Don Holst Open Track and Field Meet ended Sunday, seven records had fallen.
According the CSC Sports Information, four meet records were broken by male competitors and three were broken by females.
Highlighting Chadron State’s accomplishments was sophomore Isaac Grimes, of Moreno Valley, California, who placed first in the 60-meter dash, long jump, and triple jump. Grimes’ leap of 25 feet, 11.5 inches in the long jump was one of the new meet records.
In the 60-meter dash, Grimes was less than a second quicker than teammate Javan Lanier, who finished second.
Junior Ashton Hallsted, of Casper, Wyoming, had a weight throw of 63 feet, .75 inches, which, according to CSC Sports Information, beat the previous record of former CSC thrower Mel Herl. But Herl, competing unattached at the meet, threw 63 feet, 6 inches to set a new record herself. Herl was a six-time All-American for the Eagles.
Chadron also got wins from Allee Williamson in the 200; Celeste Cardona in the 400; Michelle Carbajal in the triple jump; and Justin Leman in the 60-meter hurdles.
Friday, the team travels to Golden, Colorado for the Colorado School of Mines DII Invite and Multi. Saturday, CSC will host the 2019 Winter Classic High School Invitational Track and Field meet.
