The Campus Activities Board talked about the importance of attending the CSC presidential candidate meetings coming up next week.

The Campus Activities Board talked about the importance of attending the CSC presidential candidate meetings coming up next week. Morgan Nelson, student trustee, brought the idea to the floor, and stressed that the students have a huge impact on the candidates.

“The Board has the final say, but they depend a lot on what we say too,” Nelson said.

Guy Mills, one candidate, will be in the Sandhills Room from 1:15-2 p.m. on Monday. Current interim president Randy Rhine will be meeting with students in the same room on from 9:15-10 a.m. Tuesday.

CAB President Dani Buckley, thanked everyone for participating in homecoming and called the events a huge success. She also told each club that if they had questions about the new, off-campus accounts to talk to Aaron Prestwich, interim executive director of student affairs.

CAB Vice President Lane Swedberg asked for input on what type of act the students would like to see on campus. Some ideas were Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert, and Jeff Dunham, but nothing was decided. Buckley also informed everyone about a possible installation of a rock wall, trying to see how much interest there would be. The possible wall would be built outside the Nelson Physical Activity Center, and much interest was shown.

Laure Sinn encouraged everyone to attend the last, regular season home football game at noon this Saturday.

She also said there would be a Native American presentation at half time to support Native American Month.

“Show support and get everyone there. We have a really good chance of going to the play-offs and they need your support,” Sinn said.

Darren Burrows, student activities coordinator, said the next free movie night will be Sunday, Nov. 18.

Kelly Aye reported that CAB has $7,769 in unallocated funds.

Sinn left the clubs with the idea of each club decorating an ornament for a tree that will be placed at the courthouse downtown. This will help each club be represented to the public for awareness.

CAB executive board members announced the rescheduling of two events, in addition to swearing in a new publicity coordinator at Tuesday’s meeting.

CAB executive board members announced the rescheduling of two events, in addition to swearing in a new publicity coordinator at Tuesday’s meeting.

Ashley Swanson, 20, junior of Byron, was the only person to submit a letter of intent to run for CAB publicity coordinator. The CAB members voted in Swanson, and President Dani Buckley swore her in before the committee.

The club fair, initially scheduled for last Thursday, was rescheduled to 10 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Buckley said.

The foam party, also scheduled for last Thursday’s late night at The Pit was rescheduled to occur today from 9 p.m.-midnight, Darren Burrows, student events coordinator, said.

“Appropriate dress, please,” Burrows said.

Kellie Aye said that there is $10,250 in the CAB’s account.

Morgan Nelson, student trustees said that Chadron will host the Nebraska State College System’s Board of Trustees this weekend for their upcoming meeting.

“If you happen to see someone that looks important, smile and show them why Chadron is the best among the state colleges,” Nelson said.

Events happening this weekend for the board of trustees meeting include the Rangeland groundbreaking ceremony today at 5:15 p.m. Shellie Johns asked that the students all try to make it to the groundbreaking ceremony to show their support. Nelson asked that if there were anything students wanted her to report to the board to see her.

Burrows said that the next free movie night would be Sept. 16. Although NOCS put in a request last week that the board consider rescheduling the day of the week for free move nights, as both it and NOCS meet on Sunday, Burrows said that they could not move free movie night just to accommodate one club, and also that it was the movie theater’s preference that free movie night be on a Sunday.

Burrows also asked that if there were any clubs interested in helping with Constitution Day, that they contact Laure Sinn.

Chi Alpha had previously asked for an allocation of $465 for the upcoming Seventh Day Slumber concert. Buckley asked for a hand vote to see who was in favor of allocating the money. A majority voted yes.

Buckley asked that Chi Alpha representatives meet with her after the meeting to discuss some “issues.”

The Campus Activities Board is one step closer to filling its remaining executive board spot when it opened the floor for nominations at its Tuesday meeting.

Students who have served as a general member for a full semester are eligible for membership on the board’s executive body. Media Club representative Ashley Swanson was nominated, but Dani Buckley, CAB President, encouraged anyone else who was interested in the position to write a letter of intent by next week when voting will take place.

In other matters, Vice President Lane Swedberg said that proposals to have anything put on the agenda must be emailed in by Sunday to Secretary Karly Watson. Swedberg also asked that representatives only represent a single club.

Swedberg then asked that if clubs have activities on campus, to speak to Shelly Johns.

Kellie Aye asked that all clubs pick up their Finance reports.

Watson asked that everyone fill in contact sheets for their club. Clubs are allowed two absences before the club is suspended, according to Watson, so she asked that if a representative could not make it to a meeting that they send their alternate.

Darren Burrows said that elections for dorm representatives for Student Senate were yesterday and today in Resident Halls.

Laure Sinn, CAB adviser said that the Club Fair is today, and asked that clubs sign up for a table to promote their club.

Johns asked that the representatives pick up brochures on the changes in the Student Center. There is a new bulletin board located in the student center, which will boast a calendar with the events on campus. Johns said that in order to get an event on the board, a club should get let her know about the event by the 15th of each month.

The Campus Activities Board recapped its procedures and the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees’ policy changes at its first meeting of the academic year Tuesday.

The Campus Activities Board recapped its procedures and the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees’ policy changes at its first meeting of the academic year Tuesday.

Vice President Lane Swedberg started off by explaining the CAB’s function. Swedberg said that the CAB is for sharing activities and communicating between clubs. He asked that each representative bring back reports to their advisers so a club adviser can tell students about the activities on campus. “That way everybody can learn about our campus,” Swedberg said.

Swedberg also said that another member needs to be elected to the executive board. CAB will be taking nominations and letters of intent for a publicity coordinator starting next week.

Secretary Karly Watson said that clubs are allowed no more than two unexcused absences during the course of the academic year. She asked that representatives fill out a contact sheet and include the phone number and email address of the CAB representatives and the alternate representative. Emails with the minutes and the agenda will be sent to both every week.

Morgan Nelson, student trustee, spoke about the June NSCS Board of Trustee’s meeting. She said that there were several policy changes in the policy manual, and went over three of them. One policy having to do with sexual harassment had been changed, which Nelson encouraged everyone to take a closer look at as “we live on a college campus, it does happen.” She also said that a new policy for clubs on campus includes that new advisers have to be approved. The final change she spoke about was that fundraised funds have to be maintained off campus starting Dec. 31. Nelson said that Student Senate is currently working on a solution to implement the board’s changes.

Aaron Prestwich, the new Interim Executive of Student Affairs spoke to the CAB about his role. Prestwich said that he oversees housing, health services, the NPAC, and other student affairs. He said that he is looking forward to being involved in CAB and congratulated everyone involved. “I commend you all for being involved in a club. It’s really important for student life. You provide the campus life, and fun, safe activities.” He said that being involved in campus life is one of the aspects that help students stay in college.
