The Eagles had a decent outcome over the weekend against Colorado Mesa University, winning two of four games. Saturday, the ladies lost the first competition 12-6 to the Mavericks but, rallied to pull off a 4-2 victory in the second. On Sunday, the team repeated the performance by winning the first 5-3 only to lose 6-5 in the second.

After a 5-25 (0-18 RMAC) 2011 season, the Eagles are hitting the gym with one thing in mind: improvement.
“They’ve been lifting at 6 a.m., three days a week since the beginning of spring semester,” head coach Natasha Marquis said in an interview yesterday. “It’s been a grind.”

The Chadron State College Women’s Golf team is off to a rocky start with the spring half of the season. After shooting 762 and finishing 8th in the Colorado State University-Pueblo Ladies Spring Invitational over the weekend, the Eagles returned home to host Tuesday afternoon’s CSC Triangular at Ridgeview Country Club.

The Eagles track and field team performed well in its outdoor season-opening meet March 24, in Pueblo, Colo., for the CSU-Pueblo Open.
The track athletes put together a decent result. Although the top two spots escaped them in all events, third was attained by Ashley Reisen in the 1500 meter (4:47.27).

The Eagles’ softball team isn’t giving the fans much to cheer about. After a trio of weekend losses, the girls now sit third from last in the standings with an overall record of 7-18 and 5-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

It’s tempting to look at the Eagles men’s basketball team in terms of what they didn’t do. At 13-14, they didn’t have a winning record. They didn’t win any of their first six games. They didn’t advance past the first round of the RMAC Shootout tournament.

Four Eagle athletes spent their midterm break in Mankato, Minn., for the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships. All four athletes won All-American honors.

In 1980, the U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey team, a group of amateur and collegiate players, beat the best hockey team in the world and won an Olympic gold medal. But for every “miracle on ice,” a thousand teams must fail.
In 2012, the Eagles joined the ranks of those teams.
