After a weekend on the road, the Eagles win 2 at home against MSU Denver
CSC All-American thrower Mel Herl, senior of Eaton, Colorado, outdid herself in the throwing events, once again, Sunday at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Tom Benish Invitational.
Chadron State won three games of a four-game series with Colorado Christian University, Lakewood, Sunday and Monday. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but weather and field conditions forced the delay.
CSC’s Cory Martens, redshirt sophomore of Newton, Kansas, provisionally qualified for the NCAA D-II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in all three throwing events, winning those events, and setting a school record at the Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota, Yellow Jacket Spring Open Saturday.
Sam Rahmig, sophomore of Gering, led the CSC golfers to their best two-round tournament score of the season at the Colorado State University-Pueblo Pack Invitational, Monday and Tuesday. Six teams competed at the invite, CSC finished fifth.
This weekend the women’s rodeo team showed what it’s capable of, taking second with 280 points at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming, while the men’s team finished third with 320 points.
CSC’s softball team won the four-game series against Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota, at the Chadron State Softball Field Saturday and Sunday.
One week after earning two indoor track and field All-American titles, senior Mel Herl, of Eaton, Colorado, hit one automatically-qualifying mark and two provisionally-qualifying marks for the D-II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May, broke one school record, and earned gold in three events at the University of Colorado Boulder Jerry Quiller Classic Friday and Saturday.
Over the weekend CSC wrangled two second-place and three third-place finishes in the first Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeo of the spring 2017 season at Gillette College, Wyoming. The men tied for first place with Central Wyoming College, Riverton, each scoring 385 points, while the women placed fifth with 150 points.
The Eagles were outscored with a total of 24-23 runs in four games against Colorado State University-Pueblo Saturday and Sunday. The Eagles split the games winning the second game each day.
