Eagles cave in to Mines at dual meet, 24-16

The Eagle wrestlers fell to the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers last Saturday in a competitive dual meet that came down to the last few matches.
Chadron’s 174-pound weight class Cody Vasconcellos, junior of Turlock, Calif., opened with a tech-fall victory over Colorado Mines’ sophomore Ryan Swanson of Castle Rock, Colo., by passing 15 points ahead of his opponent, with the final score of 20-5.
Chris Leak, redshirt freshman of Omaha at the 184-pound class, lost 12-5 to Oredigger Brandon Sheldon, freshman of Leander, Texas.
197-pound sophomore Zac Sweeney of Hesperia, Calif., was pinned by CSM’s Brad Price, sophomore of Boise, Idaho, 3:53 into the match.
The 285-pound redshirt freshman RJ Boylan of Gillette, Wyo., battled against Colorado Mines’ Bryan Stansbury, senior of Littleton, Colo.
Boylan ended up with the loss in a triple overtime 2-1.
Next, Eagle 125-pound freshman Dustin Stodola of Clarkson got caught fast in the first period. Stodola lost by pin to Colorado Mines’ redshirt freshman Chad Lousberg of Oklahoma City.
The Eagles finally came back with another strong win when 133-pound class Ryan Fillingame, freshman of Hesperia, Calif., won by tech fall over Oredigger redshirt freshman Kyle McMinn of Apache Junction, Ariz.
Chadron’s Lance Jeffries of Loveland, Colo., kept the momentum rolling by winning his 141-pound class match against Colorado Mines Dylan Lewis, sophomore of Whest Ridge, Colo., by a major decision of 10-4.
Eagle’s 149-pound class Jake Lords of Rexburg, Idaho, kept a good pace in his match ending the third period tied at 5. Lords fell to his opponent, redshirt freshman Austin Cordova of Dallas, in overtime 7-5.
At 157-pounds, sophomore Brain Easterling of Omaha immediately set the pace against Colorado Mines’ Mike Brown, senior of Sugar Land, Texas.
Easterling’s takedown that gained back points early into the first period.
Easterling also controlled the second and third periods which led to a win for the Eagles 6-2.
Justin Dekok of Kearney at 165-pounds for Chadron lost to Colorado Mines’ sophomore Jordan Larsen of Bayfield, Colo., 9-4.
This final match totaled the score board to 24-16 making Colorado School of Mines take home the win for this dual meet.
The Eagles head to Warrensburg, Mo., for the Central Missouri Duals 9 a.m. Sunday.
