Faculty recital features professors’ musical acumen

Charles Carey, assistant professor of music, performs “Solo Classical Guitar Study #14” by Matteo Carcassi during the faculty recital that took place Sunday.

The faculty recital took place 3 p.m. Sunday in the CSC Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium.

Members of the faculty performed in various music genres on instruments including wind, percussion, guitar and piano.

Sandy Schaefer, marimba, accompanied by Mimi Norman, piano presented “Valse Brillante” by George Green.

Dr. James Margetts, assistant professor of piano, played next with his piano performance of “Jardins sous la pluie” by Claude Debussy.

During the recital Margetts also accompanied a number of performers including assistant professor Adam Lambert, trumpet; Lauren Stephens, flute; adjunct instructor of trombone Michelle Lambert, trombone; and Dr. Michael Stephens, saxophone.

Members of the CSC Department of music presented vocal pieces, including “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” by Franz Schubert, sung by assistant professor Una Taylor, soprano, and accompanied by Margetts and Laura Empson, clarinet.
Joel Scheruder, assistant professor and department chair, baritone, also performed a number of vocal pieces.

Assistant professor Charles Carey performed a series of guitar pieces covering different eras of guitar music including pieces by Matteo Carcassi and Victor Young.

Carey also performed in the Jazz Band with Shaefer on the vibraphone, and David Barger, junior of North Platte, on the bass.

The recital ended with a standing ovation during final bows.
