Chadron native’s work on display

The work of Watson references an eclectic style, as evidenced from “The Colonial,” created in 2009.
Adrianne Watson’s artwork is currently on display in Memorial Hall’s main gallery. The artist will appear at a public reception from 4 – 6 p.m. March 25 at Memorial Hall.
The Chadron native uses Filipino heritage combined with rural Nebraska to create her art.
Watson, 27 of Omaha, earned her bachelor’s degree at Hastings College with a distinction in studio art and a minor in art history.
She continued her education and earned a Masters of Fine Arts in painting and drawing from the California College of the Arts.
Watson describes her art as a mixed media collage and draws her inspiration from her grandmother’s stories and her childhood in Nebraska.
Her art displays cultural symbols, young children and wartime machinery.
Watson has always had an interest in art. Though she began her college career as a nursing major in Hastings, three years into the program she realized it was a career choice and not a passion.
According to Watson, she knew art was her passion and decided to change her major.
“[I’ve] always [been] interested in showing art locally,” Watson says, “I applied for the Galaxy Series and was asked to show.”
Watson’s goals are to continue making work and enjoying it.
Her advice for upcoming artists and students is to “talk to as many people and absorb as much as you can.”
A 2001 graduate of Chadron High School, Watson has shown art in San Francisco, Milwaukee, Los Angeles, Palatine, Ill., Scottsbluff, Alliance, Chicago, and Hastings.
She is the daughter of George and Kit Watson of Chadron.
Twenty-two pieces of Watson’s work will be displayed at Memorial Hall until March 26.
