Old Admin repairs and parking lot landscaping coming soon

Indoor repair work and parking lot landscaping in and around the recently-renovated Old Admin building will begin in the coming weeks.

A leak in the ceiling of Old Admin room 237 has been a problem since September 2009.

The ceiling tile below the leak has been removed and a trash can is in place to catch the water. A copper coil filled with water which has cold or hot air blown over it depending on the season is the cause of the leak.

Blair Brennan, coordinator of physical facilities, said that the leak is a known problem, but repairs were put on hold pending a decision on whether the problem was covered under the warranty for the recent remodeling.

Further investigations revealed that the leak occurred as a result of renovations done prior to the most recent work, which began in 2008.

Parts have been ordered and the leak will be fixed as soon as they arrive. The expected arrival date is within the next couple of weeks.

Landscaping work will begin in the parking lot south of Old Admin as soon as the weather allows. Landscaping began last fall but was put on hold due to winter weather.

The concrete islands are currently filled with dirt, which is often turned into mud pit, making it difficult for students to walk across the parking lot without getting muddy. The plants, rocks, and mulch needed for the project are already on campus.
