2010-2011 senators sworn in

The last of the 2010-11 Student Senate members were sworn in Monday during the weekly Student Senate meeting. They begin their term immediately.

Eleven new senators were elected into office during the Senate elections March 17-18.

Newly elected President Jacob Karamazin, junior of Lawrence, and Vice President Jennifer Weiss, junior of Ainsworth, will both be sworn in April 29.

Senate will appoint a new executive board during the April 29 meeting.

Senators elected to the Constitutional Court are Sammi Shaykett, sophomore of Chadron, and Riley Machal, junior of Ord. Senators representing the school of Education, Human Performance, Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work are Kandace Taylor, sophomore of Sioux City, Iowa, and Kassidy Thompson, freshman of Crawford.

The Senators-at-Large are Darren Burrows, freshman of Columbus, Lanar Newman, sophomore of Kingston, Jamaica, and Leon Swiftbird, freshman of Chadron. Senators representing the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, Applied and Mathematical Sciences are Brook Housh, freshman, Morgan Nelson, freshman of Norfolk, Sarah Kingsbury, freshman of Winner, S.D., Macey Huston, freshman of Loomis, and Sandrine Kayumba of New York City.

After the elections, four Senate seats remained open. Interested students may fill those seats by petitioning the Senate.

Elizabeth Rice, freshman of Ravenna, petitioned the Senate for the School of E.H.P.C.P.S.W. Travis Doht, freshman of McCool Junction, and Nisha Durand, junior of Dominica, both petitioned to be a Senator-at-Large. Kelsey Amos, sophomore of Chadron, petitioned for the Senator of Liberal Arts.

There are five incumbents. The Constitutional Court is being represented by Dalton Nelsen, sophomore of Callaway, Rebecca Kathman, sophomore of Lawerance, and Haley Kathol, sophomore of Norfolk.

Matthew Nielsen, senior of Brunswick, and Michelle Mahr, sophomore of Sidney, are Senators at-Large.
