Native American speaker scheduled for April 7
The Chadron State College Diversity Committee has scheduled a special speaker to speak in two classes and a seminar Wednesday.
The presentations will be made by Native American speaker Rick Hull, who is known for his handmade ceremonial Native American pipes
He makes the pipes in Pipestone, Minn., on land that is sacred to Native Americans tribes.
The two in-class presentations will be 11 a.m. in Miller room 308 and 1 p.m. in Old Admin room 331. The round-table seminar/open forum will be at 2 p.m. in Miller room 202.
The classes and seminar are open to the public as well as to any students, faculty, and staff who are interested in attending.
“After listening to Rick for five minutes, you’re easily ready to sit and listen for an hour,” Bruce Hoem, professor of social work, said.
“Rick is a great teacher—you’ll laugh, you’ll admire, you’ll learn,” Hoem said.
Hull’s presentation will include how he mines the stone for his pipes. He will also discuss the different cultures and tribes that use his pipes, as well as Native American storytelling.
