CAB allocates $1500 for ‘Release’

During Tuesday’s Campus Activities Board meeting, the board allocated money for an upcoming event, talked about executive board positions, and reviewed events taking place this week.

  • CAB voted to allocate no more than $1,500 for Jovan Mays’ “Release” event, which is set to take place 7 p.m. May 1 in the Memorial Hall auditorium. Mays, a senior of Aurora, Colo., will be hosting the event for the fourth year. Mays hosted “Release” in front of a crowd of about 575 people last year, and “just over 600 the year before,” Mays said. Mays said the event will feature “a variety of music” and is bringing in talent from Mesa, Ariz., Albuquerque, N.M., Denver, and Chattanooga, Tenn. Two clubs abstained from voting for money allocations for “Release,” but the remaining 38 clubs voted “yes” to the $1,500 allocation.
  • CAB President Matt Coe, senior of Grand Island, said that nominations for CAB executive board positions will remain open until next week’s meeting, and letters of intent are due to the CAB office by 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
  • CAB Treasurer Christine Aye, sophomore of Burma, said that there is $2,442.50 in the treasury. Aye also said that there will be a luau, “Aloha CSC,” at 5 p.m. today. Students may use a meal plan to eat at the event, which is in recognition of Asian-Pacific Island Month, Aye said.
  • Nu Delta Alpha successfully appealed their budget allocations Thursday. CAB added $300 to their club account.
  • “Scholastic Day was a huge success,” Laure Sinn, coordinator of student activities, said. “It was quite the endeavor, but it worked. Thank you to all the students who helped.”
  • Tami Fosher, residence life director, announced that RLA will be hosting free bowling from 9 p.m. – midnight Saturday at Big Jim’s Bowling, which is located at 950 10th St.
  • Katrina Mundt, junior of Chadron and criminal justice club representative, said the Criminal Justice Club will be hosting a Wii Challenge from 6 – 9 p.m. today on the entire third floor of Old Admin.
  • Bryant Pritchett, junior of Littleton, Colo., announced that the Pre-Vet Club will be hosting a dog walk at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Eagle Trail, which is south of the NPAC. Pledges can be solicited to benefit the club. Those not collecting pledges are also welcome, Pritchett said. Prizes will be awarded for best costume, prettiest pooch, best trick, and K-9 twins – which is awarded to the owner who most looks like his or her dog.
  • Kelsey Amos, sophomore of Chadron, announced that Night of Country Swing set their Spring Days Dance for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Chadron Arts Center, which is at the intersection of Fourth and King streets. There will be contests for the best-dressed rodeo clown, rodeo queen, and biggest belt buckle. Admission is free for those participating in any of the contests.
