Football sets scrimmage, fun for spring finale
Work hard, stay healthy.
That’s what Chadron State Head Football Coach Bill O’Boyle said would be necessary for the Eagles to be competitive when the 2010 season opens.
This weekend the Eagles conclude spring practices with a final scrimmage at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Field, at Don Beebe Stadium on the Chadron State College Campus.
Players will be drafted to make up two teams that should be matched evenly.
“Since the true spring games started three years ago, the two split teams have been competitive,” O’Boyle said.
“You see a lot of parents involved with their kids,” O’Boyle said, adding that about 70 percent of parents will appear for the scrimmage.
“For Saturday’s game there will be donated hot dogs for the people attending,” O’Boyle said. “It’s a fun deal.”
Last Sunday the Eagles conducted the first of its two spring scrimmages. O’Boyle said the offense performed well.
“We’ve been getting our tails kicked by defense but we were able to move the ball better than any time this spring,” O’Boyle said.
According to the athletic page on the CSC website, the offense scored touchdowns on two long plays.
The first was about a 60-yard pass from quarterback Logan Rogers, freshman of Spanish Fort, Ala., to wide receiver Glen Clinton, freshman of Cody, Wyo., who got behind the secondary.
The other was a 50-yard jaunt by Garrett Treffer, senior of Scottsbluff, on a quarterback sneak.
“The guys are getting tired of playing each other,” O’Boyle said. “There’s frustration but that’s typical during the spring. It’s too bad we can’t see some new faces.”
