Senate meeting dominated by talk of upcoming events
During Monday’s Student Senate meeting, the group heard from various organizations and clubs about upcoming events.
- A Health Professions Club representative said it has scheduled Sergeant First Class Timothy Schwarten from the Army Medical Department to come to Chadron State College on April 22. The meeting will be in the Student Center Ballroom from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The meeting will provide information about scholarship programs and how to enter the Army medical occupations, including work in the dental, medical, medical service, medical specialist, nursing, and veterinary fields. Captain Chris VanDelist from the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps will also be at the meeting to discuss scholarship opportunities within the ROTC. Students who are interested in the medical field are encouraged to attend.
- Advisors will be in the Student Center Ponderosa room from noon – 6 p.m. today and Friday to help students with fall course registration.
- Jake Zitterkopf, senior of Scottsbluff, said Smiles Across Borders will be accepting donations to help improve dental health care around the world. Monetary donations can be made through the organization’s Web site, smilesacrossborders.com. All physical dental items including toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste, etc., can be dropped off in a box in the Student Senate office. Those wishing to donate can also contact Zitterkopf, who is the founder of Smiles Across Borders, to make personal arrangements.
- The Criminal Justice club is sponsoring a Wii challenge from 6 – 9 p.m. on April 29 on the third floor of the Old Admin building.
- Open Mic Night has been scheduled for 8 – 10 p.m. April 23 at the Bean Broker in downtown Chadron.
- The jazz band is set to perform in the Student Center Cafeteria from 11 a.m. – noon Friday.
