Eagles take two from Grizzlies

Chadron State College Softball team swept Adams State during the double header Saturday in Pueblo, Colo., bringing their record to 21-22 overall and 15-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The 21 wins are the most that CSC softball team has won since 2007 when they joined the Division II.

CSC won the first game over the Grizzlies 5-1. Cassie Humphrey, senior of Chadron, scored one run in the fourth inning to put CSC on the scoreboard. Nikki Ritzen, freshman of Chadron, pinch ran for Stephanie Hillman, senior of Rapid City, S.D., and brought the score to 2-1 at the end of the fourth.

Blair McEndaffer, senior of Sterling, Colo., and Lynette Ebert, senior of Rosthern, Saskatchewan, both scored in the fifth inning to bring the score to 4-1 in favor of the Eagles. McEndaffer earned the final run of the game when she brought the score to 5-1 in the seventh inning.

Humphrey, Hillman, Ebert, Allison Hendricksen, senior of Cozad, and Katelyn Moore, senior of Chadron, all added to their statistics by earning one RBI (run batted in) in the first game.

The first game, the Eagles had a total of five runs, eight hits, two errors, five RBIs, and three runners left on base.

The Eagles won the second game 11-7 over Adam State.

The action for Chadron State College started in the third inning with four runs, four hits, and two runners left on base. Melissa Lohr, senior of Eaton, Colo., kept the Eagles moving forward by scoring one run in the fourth.

The fifth inning remained quiet for Chadron with no runs, one hit, and two runners left on base. Jamie Mazankowski, junior of Kearney, and Hendricksen both scored a run in the sixth to bring the score to 7-7.

Chadron finished strong in the seventh bringing in a total of four runs to put the final score to 11-7 in favor of the Eagles.

Humphrey pitched 1 2/3 innings relieving Kate Prinder, freshman of Fallon, Nev., to win the second game.

The second game concluded with a total of 11 runs, ten hits, and 11 RBI’s. Cassie Humphrey led the day for the Eagles with a total of three runs, three hits, and two RBIs.
