CAB swears in next year’s board
During the Campus Activities Board meeting Tuesday, the new CAB executive board was sworn into office, monies were allocated to Week of Welcome, and there was debate about what to do with the remaining $942.50 in the CAB treasury.
The 2009-2010 CAB President Matt Coe, senior of Grand Island, swore in President Christine Aye, sophomore of Burma; Vice-President Kyle Klammer, sophomore of Ainsworth; Secretary Savanna Wick, junior of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.; Treasurer Luke Wright, senior of Waunita; and Special and Cultural Events Jazzlyn Seumalo, sophomore of Bremerton, Wash.
Publicity Coordinator Jon Marquez, sophomore of Alliance, and Student Events Katrina Mundt, junior of Chadron, were excused from the meeting and will be sworn in during the first meeting of the fall semester.
- Wright reported that there is $942.50 in the treasury.
- Aye requested that a motion be made to allocate no more than $6,000 to the Week of Welcome, to take place the first week of the fall semester. There will be a barbeque, free movie night, hypnotist or magician, welcome back dance, Late Night at The Pit and prizes and food, Aye said. The motion passed with 32 clubs for the allocation, one against and one abstained.
- Aye also announced the 2010 Homecoming theme, which is Building Futures Through the Decades: History in the Making.
- There will be snacks and soda in the Student Center throughout finals week. CAB allocated no more than $200 to fund the beverages and snacks.
- Seumalo announced that “Release” is set to take place in Memorial Hall 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
- Doug Liewer, senior of Butte, reported that during a video conference Board of Trustees Meeting last Thursday, via the video conference room in Miller Hall, tuition increases were announced. Tuition and room rates will increase five percent each and meal rates is to increase 3.6 percent.
-
Todd Strasburger, senior of Gordon, asked that we allocate some or all of the remaining CAB funds for Phi Beta Lambda’s upcoming trip to Nashville set to take place July 8 – 13 for the National Leadership Conference.
Liewer, Strasburger, and Caitlin Parker, junior of Chadron, are all going on the trip. - Adam Neumann, freshman of Fort Calhoun, questioned where remaining monies go and if we really need to use all of that, especially since tuition went up five percent, as Liewer said during his report.
Dean of Student Kim Bright clarified that although tuition went up, it is not directly related to CAB funds and how it is to be spent. - It was unanimously decided that $100 would be allocated to Chi Alpha’s end-of-the-year barbeque, and the remainder, $742.50, would go to Phi Beta Lambda’s trip.
- Bright announced that the finals week breakfast is set to take place 9 – 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Student Center Cafeteria.
- Bright also “bid adeu” to students since her contract was not renewed for next year.
Tuesday’s meeting was the last of the semester.
