Volleyball opens at UNO Showcase

At the end of the 2009 volleyball season, the Chadron State Eagles lost eleven of the original seventeen team members. With this difficult situation, Head Coach Amy Spruiell hosted an open tryout session earlier this month.

With only six returning team members the Eagles picked up nine new players to hit the court this fall.

The Chadron State volleyball team also has quite a few young faces this year.

The team has claimed four freshman including setter Alex Alderman of Rapid City, S.D., libero Ashley Bargen of Chadron, setter Kyla Duncan of Berthoud, and middle hitter Jessica Jester of Cheyenne, Wyo.

The team also has nine sophomores, new members include outside hitter Ashley Fanelli of Arvada, Colo., setter Natalie Hadden of Bridgeport, libero Kristina Harter of Colorado Springs, Colo., outside hitter Aileen Ramirez of Clovis, Calif., and libero Kara Stockton of Colorado Springs, and returning sophomores Lexi Hoagland, hitter of Rushville, outside hitter Mollie Jones of Longmont, Colo., setter Alyssa Norton of Rushville, and hitter Lauren Yoder of Colorado Springs.

The two upperclassman this year are juniors setter Skye Duncan of Berthoud, and libero Kaitlin Luikens of Scottsbluff.

The first game for the Eagles is set for Sept. 3 against the University of Nebraska-Omaha for the UNO Showcase. The first official season game is at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 against the Western New Mexico University Mustangs in Armstrong Gym.
