NOCS opener swings record turnout

Night of Country Swing (NOCS) had its kick-off dance Sunday, bringing in a record number of people. Admission was free for the first dance session of the semester, with prizes such as movies, T-shirts, and coffee gift cards given out.

NOCS President Sarah Dowling, junior of Draper, S.D., said there were 98 people at the dance, over half of whom were new to NOCS.
The dance, which meets once a week for country swing dancing at the Chadron Arts Center, started out with lessons for anyone who was new to this style of dance.

Dowling said that the majority of the newcomers were already familiar with country swing.

“The dance was a huge success,” said NOCS vice-president Trevor Dietrich, senior of Mitchell.

Ken Boehr, senior of Lincoln, along with Drew Enevoldsen, 2008 CSC graduate of Potter, started NOCS four years ago.
The club has done well, with membership increasing significantly since then.

“It’s amazing to see the transformations from the beginning [of NOCS] to now,” Dowling said.

The dances are from 7 to 10 p.m., and admission is two dollars per individual or three dollars per couple.

Lessons are provided during the dances for people who either want to learn how to dance or are interested in learning new country swing moves.
The next dance is scheduled for Sept. 12 at the Chadron Arts Center, which is on the corner of fourth and King streets.
