Frosh golfer headlines road show
The Chadron State College golf team displayed a promising future throughout the performance of first two tournaments of the season.
With a score of 713, the Eagles brought home a third place finish at the Yellowjacket Invitational at Briarwood Golf Course in Billings, Mont., on Sept. 7 and 8.
The team dropped 13 strokes from Sept. 7 to score a 350 on Sept. 8 for their final round of the tournament.
Key players Emilee Pilkington, freshman of Scottsbluff, and Alissa Peterson, senior of Lusk, Wyo., placed 10th and 11th in the tournament which secured the team for a finish in the top three.
The Montana State University-Billings Yellowjackets hosted the tournament and won it with a total of 655 strokes. Sept. 7’s score was 311 and the Yellowjackets followed on Sept. 8 with a 324.
The team also maintained a strong finish in the first RMAC tournament at the Western New Mexico Invite in Silver City, N.M.
With an opening score of 334 and a final round score of 352, the Eagles finished with a total score of 686, the team earned fifth place.
The Adams State College Grizzlies tied with Chadron State shooting a 341 the first day and picking up a 346 the second day.
The Western New Mexico University Highlanders, who shot a 619 total for first place.
The Mesa State College Mavericks placed second with a 633 stoke total for the tournament.
At third place, the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves shot 665 strokes for both days.
The University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers scored 680 for fourth place in the tournament.
Pilkington had another stellar score on day one, tying for third with a score of 77.
Allison Rowden, junior of Broken Bow, finished in the top 30 day one, and tied for 15th day two.
Rowden tied with CSU-Pueblo’s Micheala Breit, freshman of Greeley, Colo., and Western New Mexico’s Megan Downey, sophomore of Glendale, Ariz.,
Caitlin Parker, junior of Rock Springs, Wyo., also proved worthy scores, finishing in the top 30 on day one.
The Eagles are continuing to improve and will compete at the second RMAC tournament Monday and Tuesday, hosted by Mesa State.
