NSCS talks turkey about expenditures

The Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees met Friday morning in the Mari Sandoz Center Chicoine Atrium to discuss business matters and approve system changes and financial allotments. The board approved numerous motions, all of them unanimous. Among the motions, the board approved a “Deficit Request.”
Carter “Cap” Peterson, vice chair of the board, introduced the measure to seek $1.4 million from the state government for back pay owed to the faculty of Chadron, Peru, and Wayne State Colleges following the Aug. 13 Nebraska Supreme Court opinion.
NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter said he spoke with Gov. Dave Heineman’s office and the governor “understands why this is important.”
The board also approved a reallocation of maintenance funds for CSC. This allocation covers replacing windows in Andrews Hall and a new $77,000 dish washing machine for the cafeteria.
Sheri Irwin-Gish, associate vice chancellor for communications, marketing and system relations, introduced several pieces from a new unified marketing campaign for all three colleges as the NSCS. Previous marketing materials were specific to each state college. The new campaign emphasizes the offerings of NSCS as a whole.
Carpenter said during his address Thursday, the state colleges can achieve greater things together as one system than as individual colleges.
