Volleyball to open RMAC season
The Chadron State College volleyball team opened its season last weekend playing in the University of Nebraska-Omaha Showcase Tournament.
The team’s first victory of the season was a 3-0 win, with subscores of 18-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19, over the University of Arkansas-Monticello.
The teams defense held up with 71 digs and 7 blocks.
Kristina Harter, sophomore of Colorado Springs, Colo., came out with a total of 25 digs in the back row.
Mollie Jones, sophomore of Longmont, Colo., had a total of 16 kills and 21 digs.
Lauren Yoder, sophomore of Colorado Springs, Colo., added 10 kills, while Jessica Jester, sophomore of Cheyenne, Wyo., finished with nine total kills.
Ashley Bargen, redshirt freshman of Chadron, came out with eight kills.
Setter Skye Duncan of Berthoud, Colo., gave out 44 set assists.
The Eagles hit a total of .163.
Earlier in the day, CSC suffered a 3-0 loss to Upper Iowa, with subscores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-22.
Duncan helped the offense with 27 set assists, two aces and added 12 digs, while Harter got the defense going with 15 digs.
Leading the attack on the opposing teams was Jones with 14 kills with a season-high of .458.
She also wrapped up her second double-double of the day by getting 11 digs.
The Eagles will continue their season with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener next week in Chadron 7 p.m. tonight against Western New Mexico.
