Art takes root: trees on display

An exhibit by Shane Haley, a graduate of University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is currently located in Memorial Hall. Most are graphite drawings, but a few are acrylic paint on canvas. The drawings all have tree-like figures.

One of the most interesting things about the exhibition is that each piece gives off its own emotion. A perfect example of this is “Stressed.” This piece features a tree with twisted branches, and one branch that is broken and splintered, giving off a sense of worry or stress, as the title suggests.

The pieces in the exhibit don’t all have negative emotions. In fact, many of the pieces in the gallery give off very happy vibes. Quite a few of them give off a sense of friendship, union, and even love.

One of the pieces is titled “Relationship.” In this one, the trees look almost like people. The tree in the middle reaches towards the other trees, making it look like there is some sort of longing and connection between the trees.

Haley’s art pieces have a unique way of giving off their own emotion. The exhibition will be open until Oct. 15 in the Memorial Hall Main Gallery.
