Chadron State College Health Services is offering $10 influenza vaccine shots to students and faculty again this fall.

Students and faculty members can get shots in Crites Hall room 009 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 4 p.m today.

The $10 fee can be paid with cash or check.

CSC Health Services also held an open clinic Wednesday in the Student Center.

According the U.S. Center for Disease Control website, seasonal flu vaccines protect against three different influenza viruses. Which three the vaccine covers is determined by indications from research of what will be most common strains during an upcoming season.

The CDC website states, “The 2010-2011 flu vaccine will protect against 2009 H1N1, and two other influenza viruses (an H3N2 virus and an influenza B virus).

“The viruses in the vaccine change each year based on international surveillance and scientists’ estimations about which types and strains of viruses will circulate in a given year.”

About two weeks following vaccination, the body develops antibodies that provide protection against influenza virus infection.

Students or faculty who need to arrange for a different time or day can call Chadron State Health Services at 432-6232.

CSC Nurse Ann Dockweiler said Tuesday via e-mail, “We can probably accommodate you.
“We will continue to give flu shots all fall or until our supply is gone.”
