Students get their hands dirty at art day
The CSC Art department hosted its annual “High School Art Day” Monday. Estimates place attendance at around 100 students from 10 Nebraska schools and two schools from South Dakota.
Art department faculty, assisted by over 20 students, provided hands-on and observational demonstrations from seven different categories including: graphic design, ceramics, printmaking, glassblowing, pastels, drawing, and photography.
The event is important not only for educating high school students on the importance and enjoyment of the arts, but is also used as a recruiting tool to allow students the opportunity to meet faculty and get acquainted with industry-level equipment that they will likely be dealing with if they choose to pursue a career in art.
Mary Donahue, associate professor of art, said, “The great thing about Art Day is seeing the high school students’ eyes light up when trying a new media they’ve never worked in before. It’s also nice to see our own CSC art students sharing what they have learned and the connections they make with each other.”
