Student Senate

Senate hears fob survey results

Ashley Maxon, treasurer, presented the key fob survey results and the senate discussed upcoming events at its Monday meeting.

Maxon said that of the 402 students who participated in the survey on key fob access, the majority feel safe on campus.

The survey results also showed most students are not interested in additional self defense classes.

Maxon said she must step down as chair of the key fob committee because of other obligations. She asked for a volunteer to step in and chair the committee. No response came from the floor, and after about a minute of silence, Maxon sat down.

Jacob Karmazin, president, said students will have the opportunity again this spring to volunteer with Alternative Spring Break to help clean up debris following tornadoes in Missouri and Oklahoma.

The total cost of the trip is $150 and a $100 deposit is due by Feb. 4.

Interested students can pick up flyers with more details in the Student Center, or in the office of Deena Kennell, director of career and academic planning services. Flyers are also available in Kennell’s office, 108 Crites Hall.

Christine Aye, Campus Activities Board president, gave an update on plans for Mardi Gras activities and Spring Days that were presented at last week’s CAB meeting.

Aye also said Crestview Care Center’s is seeking volunteers to come spent time with residents once a month.

Interested students can contact Amanda Watts, graduate student of Hot Springs, S.D., at [email protected].

Watts spoke about Crestview’s request at the Jan. 11 CAB meeting.

Laure Sinn, coordinator of student activities, said another business signed up for Uptown on Campus, bringing the total to ten businesses for the event 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Sinn said several clubs are also planning to participate.
