Letter to the editor

Dear Editor:

This correspondence is in response to Julie Davis’ article, “Woodhead’s ghosts haunt Patriots”.  In the last few paragraphs she made statements that are very questionable and outright wrong.

1. “Woodhead’s chance to prove himself to Head Coach Rex Ryan and the rest of the Jets was hammered into the ground”.

Danny rushed for more yards than anyone on the Patriots team.  The leading rusher is not usually referred to as being hammered and Danny proved himself long before the Jets game.

2. “He failed to win a title at Chadron State College”.

First, one person does not win a title in football.  It is a team sport.

Second, in 2006 and 2007 Chadron State won the RMAC Championship Title.  In 2006 and 2007, Danny won the Harlon Hill title out of 10,000 players.  During his career Danny won the rushing title with 7,441 yards.  A record that stands today in Division I & II.  That should satisfy everyone’s need for a title.

3. Danny “fell when he was so close to the AFC Championship”.

This makes no sense.  Again, the leading rusher.

4. “the Danny Woodhead Curse is becoming more common on campus”.

The only outlet for this is The Eagle.  I have spoken to not one CSC student or fan that has heard of this.  Perhaps it was this “Curse” that assisted CSC in going undefeated. “ Something your heard on campus” should not be published.

5. “Woodhead’s ghosts haunt Patriots”.

The primary thing that “haunted” the Patriots was the best quarterback in the NFL had a broken foot.  He had surgery a day or two after the game.  Was it Danny’s “ghosts that assisted CSC in going undefeated?

Most people in Chadron are so very proud of Danny and all the Chadron State College football players and coaches.  We are so lucky to have a quality football program right here in our town.
