High Plains Music Festival planned to start Friday
The 39th annual High Plains Band and Choir Music Festival hosted by the Chadron State College music department will welcome 232 high school students from 22 high schools in three states as they perform on Feb. 7-8. The event will end with a concert held Feb. 8 in Memorial Hall free of charge and open to the public at 5 p.m.
Students were selected through audio tapes that were submitted last fall. Each student will compete in one of four events which include honor band, honor choir, girls’ choir, and festival band.
Students will be led by CSC faculty Dr. Adam Lambert, Dr. Joel Schreuder, Dr. Una Taylor, and Dr. John Wacker, chairman of the music department at Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. Organizers of the event said it allows high school students to work with talented peers and college professors.
