CAB talks about “Battle of the Bands” and other competitions
The Campus Activities Board discussed the Public Relations Club’s “Battle of the Bands” event and Senate elections at Tuesday’s meeting.
CAB allocated $2,000 to the Public Relations Club who requested the money for a “Battle of the Bands” competition. Kristina Harter, president of the PR Club, and Bethany Cook, vice president of the PR Club, said the money will pay for t-shirts, monetary prizes for the winning bands, concessions and advertising.
Cook said the event will be 7 – 11 p.m., April 15, at the Student Center Ballroom. A panel of judges will determine the winning bands. The event is free for students who bring their student IDs and costs $3 per community member.
The purpose of the event is to raise money for the PR Club, show the talent of CSC students, and tie the college into the community of Chadron, Cook said.
“We want to make this an annual event,” Cook said.
Although three bands are currently signed up for the competition, the PR Club’s goal is to have 20 bands and 400 people attending.
Christine Kambarami, president, said that Riley Machal is the new chief justice of Student Senate. Machal said that Senate elections are March 29 – 30. Anyone can apply for senator-at-large or the constitutional court, but a student has to major within a certain school to represent that school, Machal said. Petitions to get a student’s name on a ballot require 10 student signatures and are due March 25.
Luke Wright, CAB treasurer, said the CAB account contains $6,046.43. Budget hearings are March 21 – 22, and clubs should email their budget packets to Ashley Maxon, senate treasurer.
Laure Sinn, adviser, said that Scholastic Day is in about a month; helping with the event is a great way for students to showcase their clubs, Sinn said.
She relayed a message from Trevor Dietrich, student trustee, who was absent. The message was that the governor will select the new student trustee, and the announcement will be made within the next few weeks, according to Dietrich.
Seth Hulquist, adviser, thanked students for representing the college to the 35-40 prospective students who attended the open house event 2 weeks ago.
He reminded clubs that they can use their club money to help pay for guest speaker Olivia Weter who is presenting a seminar “A Step Ahead” on professional development. The seminar is scheduled for April 20. CAB and Career Services are sponsoring the event.
Adam Neumann, publicity coordinator, said there is currently very little information to display on the plasma screens. Clubs who want to post their information on the screens should contact him.
Katrina Mundt, student events coordinator, said that the Nerf game “Got’cha” begins the Monday after midterm break.
