EagleMail ups its offerings
After a battle with Google and Microsoft, CSC EagleMail users are getting upgrades, said Andrew Schmid, CSC support specialist.
The CSC IT Department has set upgrades in motion to all EagleMail accounts beginning on Monday that is set to be finalized within the week.
The upgrade includes seven new features: importing contacts, sharing and publishing calendars; chat; attachments; Outlook Web Apps; SkyDrive; and employee email addresses. With the upgrade, the IT department hopes it will tie everything together, Schmid said.
With the new import contacts feature, users can move contacts from other accounts into their account that they access from Outlook Web App.
Another new feature users can control is sharing or publishing their calendars. With this feature users can either share their calendar with other groups or individuals, or they can publish their calendar by providing a URL that anyone can access.
In addition users can also chat using Outlook Web App just as one might with any instant messaging service.
Furthermore, Schmid said users should see a difference in working with attachments. In addition to attaching pictures, documents, or other files, users can now attach messages inside their mailboxes to a message they are composing. Also, with the new attachment feature users can quickly download multiple attachments as a zip file.
Outlook Web Apps now enables users to create and edit work with the suite of Microsoft office programs from their browsers and is compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox for PC users and Safari for Mac users, so no more hauling around a flash drive.
Users will also receive 25GB of online storage to save, edit, and share documents.
With a request from students, CSC employee email addresses will be added to the global address list.
Schmid said, he could not say when the upgrades would be completed because the IT department has to create tutorials for students, and train its helpdesk employees.
