Three senators join senate ranks, campus clean-up initiative planned

This week at Senate three new members were inducted as senators and a community service activity was planned for Senate members.

T.J. Thomson petitioned to be a Senator of Liberal Arts.  He said he wanted to join senate due to the current lack of representation in the school of Liberal Arts. Thomson was quickly approved to be a senator.

The next two petitioners took longer to sort out.  There was only one position open for Senator-at-Large and Cassidy Emerson and Corey Paz both petitioned for it.

Emerson said she wanted the position so she could be a part of making more changes happen on campus.  She had initially applied for a position as Senator of B.E.A.M.S.S., but there weren’t any open positions, so she chose to apply as a Senator-at-Large instead.

Paz said he applied to be a senator because he wanted to be more involved in campus and promote activities that senate is involved in.

The Senate deliberated for over 30 minutes about who should get the position and other options for the person who didn’t get the position.  The final verdict was to elect one person and to offer other available positions to the next candidate.

Corey Paz ended up being the candidate elected as a Senator-at-Large.  Emerson was offered either the position of Junior Senator of B.E.A.M.S.S., Junior Senator-at-Large, or Constitutional Court member.  She accepted the position for Constitutional Court member.

Jacob Karmazin, president, brought up an opportunity for some community service this weekend.  He explained that he had noticed quite a bit of trash accumulating on campus and wanted to do something about it.  He said, “I thought it would be nice to give back to the campus.” Senate members will meet Sunday at 2 p.m. to perform trash clean up around campus.

Nick Brenning, senator of B.E.A.M.S.S., said that the TVs for the Creative Dining Services have been purchased and the cables are set and ready, but the college maintenance has not had time to put them up yet.

Christine Kambarami, CAB president, said that the battle of the bands competition will take place on April 15 and up to twenty bands from the school and community are expected.

Laure Sinn, coordinator of student activities, said that Scholastic Day is planned for April 1.  This is the fiftieth anniversary of Scholastic Day and she is expecting 2,000 high school students to be present for the event.
