‘The Seven Deadly and Lively Artists’ opens in Memorial Hall

The Senior art show, “The Seven Deadly and Lively Artists,” opened March 31 and features the work of seven graduating art students. The exhibit will show through April 15 in the main gallery of Memorial Hall.
The title of the show is a spin-off of the seven sins and virtues.
The artists featured in the show are Debra Hellerich, of Waverly, Hilory Martin of Bozeman, Mont., Joshua Martin of Hot Springs, S.D., James Overshiner of Hemingford, Shannon Steben of Torrington, Wyo., Abby Zimmerman of Mullen, and Kelsey Hinesley of Edgemont, S.D.
Many of the artist’s are showing 3-D works including ceramics, glassblowing, and stained glass, although some are also showing paintings and drawing.
Martin commented that the reason they chose the art they did was to make sure it represented them well as artists.
All of the graduating seniors plan on going on to do art.
Those who are showing have been working hard on the show for a long time. Stebens said, “It’s almost like having a full time job.”
Steben also mentioned that the challenge is exciting.
Martin also commented on how much time they all devoted to the show, saying he spent 15 hours on his piece.
Although the work is hard, the students explained that they enjoyed each other’s company while working on the show.
“We see each other every single day,” said Hinesley. She said that the group is like a second or third family. They shared opinions and got ideas from one another. “The constructive criticism really helps.”
“We work together as a group really well,” Stebens said.
The main gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Senior show will be showing until April 15.
