Campus resource officer provides safety tips

Welcome New CSC students, and welcome back to everyone,

My name is Chris Hughes. I am a police officer with the Chadron Police Department. I am also Chadron State College’s School Resource Officer. I am here to help keep college life on campus as safe and enjoyable as possible. But, remember I am available for more than law enforcement issues on campus. I am also here to help with many different things, from something as simple as providing a reference to a paper, to being a person you can talk over issues with you may not feel comfortable talking with anyone else about.

As this is a special early edition of The Eagle, I would like to offer some tips to keep you and your personal property safe on and off campus.

1. Always lock your dorm room and your car. Take away the temptation for someone to take your stuff.

2. Never go walking or running alone at night. Always take at least one friend, and let someone know where you’re going and how long you will take. Remember to wear bright or reflective clothing.

3. If you go to a party, go with a friend. Always know where you are going and tell someone where you’re going.

4. Don’t drink alcohol under the age of 21.

5. NEVER drink and drive. ALWAYS have a designated driver, make sure they don’t drink any alcohol, not even one or two. If you don’t have a driver, call for a ride from a sober friend. The Chadron Police Department will give rides if officers are available.

6. Remember it is possible to happen on campus. Crimes from thefts to personal crimes have been reported on campus.

Any questions or concerns can be brought to my office in the east breeze way of Kent Hall, or at [email protected].
