CAB execs emphasize meeting interactivity
The first Campus Activities Board (CAB) meeting of the Fall 2011 semester included introductions from club representatives, the executive board, and an overview of upcoming events on campus.
President Luke Wright welcomed everyone back and said that the Week of Welcome events were a great success. He said that a homecoming committee would be formed soon, because homecoming is at the beginning of October. Anyone interested in helping with the committee should talk to Wright.
Vice President Jamie Keller said the Senate and CAB executive boards are working together to make a student section in the football stadium.
Treasurer Samantha Evans said there is currently no money in the CAB account. Evans also introduced herself as the Vice-Chair of the Senate Finance Committee (SFC), and announced that SFC would begin accepting applications to the committee beginning next week. Further, she said that the Senate Finance Committee would be sending out a letter next week welcoming clubs back and outlining expectations and goals for the academic year.
Student Trustee Riley Machal said her duties include relaying information about CSC to the Board of Trustees and reporting back from them. In June, the Board of Trustees reduced the number of credits required for incoming students to graduate from 125 to 120. Student fees were also raised 5 percent.
Secretary T.J. Thomson passed out contact sheets for club representatives to fill out with their clubs’ contact information. If a club’s sheet is not returned by the CAB meeting next Tuesday, it will count as one absence for that club.
Advisor Laure Sinn said that Uptown on Campus would be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Center Ballroom. More than 60 businesses are expected to be involved with this event, and there will be free merchandise.
There is a free bowling night 8 p.m. to midnight Friday at Saya Lanes bowling alley on west 10th Street.
Hypnotist Valerie Reeves will perform in Memorial Hall Wednesday.
The applied science clubs are hosting a street dance 9 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, behind the Student Center. There will be music, drinks, and prizes.
The Chadron Lifespan Wellness Team is sponsoring a “Try-athlon” Sunday at Chadron State Park. Check-in is at 1 p.m., and the event starts at 2 p.m. Teams or individuals can participate in either a short or long course. Details about the event are available at the group’s website chadronwellness.com
Publicity Coordinator Adam Neumann had the club representatives introduce themselves and name their favorite activities. In an attempt to make CAB more interesting, activities will be incorporated into the meetings, Wright said.
Morgan Nelson, club representative and Senate president, said a time capsule will be put together for homecoming. She passed around a sheet for students to sign up for a position on the selection committee.
James Bahenksy, club representative and Senate vice-president, said that homecoming nominations will be on the CSC website this year.
