Campus Activities Board

Fundraising, homecoming top CAB agenda

The Campus Activities Board discussed fund raising and homecoming at its meeting Tuesday.

Karen Pope, director of alumni & annual giving, explained that the fund raising policy at CSC prevented clubs from asking businesses for cash donations. However, clubs can ask for products or services from businesses.

Pope passed out a form that clubs must complete prior to fundraising.

Luke Wright, president, said the Senate Finance Committee will check to see if clubs filled out the form during the budget hearings.

Cricket Haag, business manager for the Chadron State Foundation, said that clubs are responsible for paying sales tax, which needs to be included on club invoices.

Samantha Evans, treasurer said there were $6,450 in the CAB account.

Wright, said clubs will receive incentives for participating in the Eagle Festival during homecoming. All expenses will be paid by CAB; clubs are only being asked to sponsor an activity.

Bed sheets, which are free, are available in the Senate office for clubs to decorate for the bed sheet contest.

Riley Machal, student trustee, said that CSC will be compiling its master plan, which is a ten year plan for improvements to the college. All three state colleges are required to create these plans. A meeting to discuss the new plan is planned for 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bordeaux/Lakota room of the Student Center. Machal said students are encouraged to attend, because student opinions really matter.

Machal also said plans for CSC’s new Rangeland Center were approved at the NSCS Board meeting at Peru State College. Construction on the center will begin in the spring. The board also approved planning for the East Court Apartments. The current plan is to build the apartments on the east side of campus and use the location of the West Court Apartments for parking.

Senate elections are Sept. 28. Students can also petition to join senate. Forms are available in the senate office and are due Sept. 22.

Jamie Keller, vice president, passed out a sign-up sheet for a flash mob planned to occur during half time at an upcoming football game.

He also said “Tradition Never Graduates” T-shirts are available for students, in the senate office. The T-shirts are free for students until homecoming, after which they will cost $5. The Pit is hosting a rave dance 9 p.m. Thursday at the Student Center Pit.

T.J. Thomson, secretary, said homecoming nominations are due online by 5 p.m. Thursday.

Sara Labor, student events coordinator, said the first Galaxy Series event, “Ricky Nelson Remembered” is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hall.

CAB selected Adam Neumann, publicity coordinator, and Jazzy Seumalo, special and cultural events coordinator, for its homecoming king and queen candidates.
