According to the Apple, Inc. website and numerous media outlets online and off, Apple co-founder and former CEO, Steve Jobs died today at the age of 56.

Several media report that the cause of death remains undisclosed but according to ABC news, family members said in statement, Jobs died peacefully and surrounded by family.

Apple’s website states, “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”

The site also states that anyone wishing to share thoughts, memories or condolences may email [email protected].

In a touching moment for the Twitterverse, former Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates tweeted, “Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to Steve Jobs’ family & friends. The world rarely sees someone who made such a profound impact.”
