Finance committee outlines goals

At its first meeting of the year, the Senate Finance Committee discussed ways to allow clubs to access accounts online and criteria for budget packets.

As mandated in the SFC constitution, SFC Chair T.J. Thomson said the committee needed to craft a mission statement with objectives and goals for the year. The statement is scheduled to be presented at the next meeting, Nov. 21.

Kaelee Stuchlik, at-large committee member representative, was appointed as secretary for the group.

The criteria for budget packets were thoroughly discussed. As each member offered input, the group concluded some of the group’s objectives were communication, transparency, and fairness in evaluating clubs.

Paul McGowan asked the members to consider whom exactly the club impacts and affects.

The Senate Finance Committee is also pushing to get the clubs’ accounts entered into an online portal where they will be able to access it at anytime. In the past, clubs received one paper statement halfway through the year, which is a system that could be improved, the committee thought.

Nathan Pindell said clubs need to work together and help each other achieve their goals, if possible. All of the members are working on getting criteria drawn up to give to clubs in order to prepare clubs for their budget hearings.

Budget packets will be given out at the first CAB meeting of 2012, and are due by the last CAB meeting in February.

Budget hearings are set for the following month in March.
