The Chadron State College women’s basketball team traveled to Spearfish, S.D., last Tuesday to take on Black Hills State University. The lady Eagles were looking to tally their first win of the season and gain some momentum before heading to Colorado for back-to-back games.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead early and never looked back from there. Mid-way through the first half, CSC pulled within one point, but after the Jackets sank three 3-pointers in a row, their lead grew to 10. From this point on, Black Hills would hold a double-digit lead.

Leading the Yellow Jackets attack was sophomore Jordan Kent, of Gillette, Wyo. Kent shot seven of 10 from the field, and a perfect four for four from the free throw line for a total of 18 points.

The Jackets had two other players finish with double-digit points. Freshman Dakota Barrie, of Mountain Home, Idaho, and senior Kristi Ryan, of Highmore, S.D., each tallied 11 points for the lady Jackets.

For the Eagles freshman, Dallas Shaw, from Buffalo, Wyo., led the team in scoring with 18 points. Shaw, who was the only Eagle to finish with double-digit points, was seven of 14 from the field, and four of eight from beyond the arc. Sadie Waugh, junior from Paxton, dominated the glass for the lady Eagles and finished with a total of six rebounds. At the free throw line, senior Kada Williams, of Green River, Wyo., was a perfect four for four.

This weekend the lady Eagles will travel to Colorado for a two-game road trip. The weekend starts with the Eagles taking on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University. The Mavericks have a record of 2-2 and are coming off back-to-back wins, including a high scoring victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State in which the Mavs racked up 107 points. The next day the Eagles will travel a short 40 miles to Gunnison, Colo., where they will take on the Western State College Mountaineers. The Mountaineers have a 5-1 record for the season and are coming off three straight losses. Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 6 p.m.
