Eagles drop three games

The Eagles’ softball team isn’t giving the fans much to cheer about. After a trio of weekend losses, the girls now sit third from last in the standings with an overall record of 7-18 and 5-11 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
This past weekend they played a total of four games; double-headers both Saturday and Sunday, against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks, who are ranked 2nd in the RMAC with a 15-5 record (17-12 overall).
Despite the myth of the “luck of the Irish” on St. Patrick’s Day, the softball team could only put together one win during the Saturday’s double-header. They lost the first game to the Skyhawks 12-2 but managed to scrape up some runs for an 11-2 victory the second time around.
On Sunday, the team lost both of their games 21-16 and 9-5, but fought hard through the first contest. They held off the Skyhawks for much of the game, trading leads until the sixth inning when Fort Lewis took the final lead.
The Eagles go on the road to Adams State College this weekend for a double-header both Saturday and Sunday. Adams State’s offense is led by senior shortstop Rebecca Lundquist of Fort Collins, Colo., who is batting an impressive .534 average. Saturday, the girls face off against the Grizzlies at noon then again at 2 pm, then Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Eagles will return home next week for another double-header hosting Black Hills State on March 28.
