Chadron State College’s student body voted in Student Senate’s top two executive seats, 10 senators, one Constitutional Court member, and ratified three constitutional amendments at its April 18-19 elections.

The student body elected James Bahensky, 22, senior of Anselmo, for president, and T.J. Thomson, 21, junior of Golden, Colo., for vice president.

Students elected four senators-at-large, Morgan Nelson, Robert Jordan, Sara Labor, and Joshua Keating; three senators of B.E.A.M.S.S., Beth Wroblewski, Jocelyn Utech, and Joseph Reedy; two senators of E.H.P.C.P.S.W., Hannah Clark and Ashley Swanson; and one senator of Liberal Arts, Elizabeth Rice, according to the Senate’s official Facebook election page.

Heather Wing was elected as a Constitutional Court member.

The three constitutional amendments on the ballot are part of a larger overhaul Student Senate is conducting to make its governing document current and to meet the needs of the college’s modern student.

“Two of the amendments broaden the rights of students at CSC. The third amendment integrates residence hall representation into our current government, and will provide better representation for the student body as a whole,” Bahensky stated.

Bahensky and Thomson ran on a platform consisting of several varied goals, including introducing debit/credit card payment options for CSC’s Creative Dining Services, re-evaluating online classes for on-campus students, and continuing to work with faculty and administration to ensure the opinions of students are heard.

Nisha Durand, Student Senate chief justice, stated Wednesday evening that 112 students had voted during the Wednesday portion of the elections, and estimated that approximately 200 students voted overall. Durand said that she would present the final numbers at Student Senate’s Monday meeting.
