NSCS data currently uncompromised, investigation continues

A May 23 security breach into the Nebraska Student Information System (NeSIS) is not believed to have affected Chadron, Peru, or Wayne State data, an official states.

Nebraska State College System Chancellor Stan Carpenter confirmed Monday a tentative report published last week that no NSCS data was accessed through the information hacking.

“The investigation, which is continuing, has found no breach of NSCS data,” Carpenter stated Monday via email.

The NeSIS houses student, staff, faculty, and alumni personal information for more than half-a-million individuals from across its five institutions and the NSCS, a report generated by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln states.

According to a UNL press release, the university system has contracted with an external security firm to analyze the institutions’ security measures and to prevent a similar breach from occurring in the future.
