Eagles volleyball travel for season opener tournament

Chadron State Eagles’ volleyball team begins their season this weekend at the Northern State Tournament in Aberdeen, S.D. Coach Janel Bailey has high hopes for her team and the four games they will play.

“We are all excited for this weekend,” Baily said. “Honestly, we are in a great position as our record last year doesn’t indicate what this team is capable of achieving and the other teams just might underestimate us.”

The Eagles will compete against Northern State University and Missouri Western on Friday, and then Black Hills State and Minot State on Saturday. Out of the four teams, Black Hills State is the only team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Last season, two of the Eagles five wins were against Black Hills State at key times during the season.  Coach Baily sees playing them in the tournament as a head start for the season.

“The nice part about playing them this weekend is that it doesn’t count for a conference record so we can use that game to become familiar with them and learn how to beat them consistently when it counts.”

Coach Baily and the players are all looking forward to a fresh start this season and a chance to prove themselves.

“Our goals for this tournament are to fight hard for every point and above all else, compete!”

Friday’s games begin at 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, the games start at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
