In response to area wildfires on the outskirts of town, Chadron State College has cancelled classes today and tomorrow, and is encouraging students residing on campus to take an early weekend and head home.

CSC Housing personnel verbally notified on-campus residents of the situation early this morning through a series of group meetings.

Though evacuation is not required, and campus will remain open, multiple residents from dormitories across campus confirmed that housing personnel recommended that students leave, if they are able.

U.S. Highway 385, to the south of Chadron, closed around midnight, and remains so at this time. The east and west routes of U.S. Highway 20 are open as of 6:20 a.m.
