Fire within 25 miles of Chadron

Flames from both the West Ash and Douthit Fires are within 25 miles of Chadron, as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, according to multiple eye-witness reports.
Officials have notified several areas to evacuate, including residents in the Chadron State Park vicinity and those near Camp Norwesca.
A representative from the Chadron Police Department said Wednesday evening that authorities are evacuating residents as a precaution, because the fire can change directions very quickly and divide its path in multiple directions.
If evacuations are necessary in Chadron, the official said emergency sirens would sound, and that ground forces would go door-to-door notifying residents.
As of 11:30 p.m., personnel from the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol were out issuing evacuation orders to rural residents in the fire’s path, the officer said.
The officer also said that authorities contacted the Emergency Broadcast System, which notified media outlets and the National Weather Service.
